Café Femenino was founded in Peru in 2003 when 464 women farmers in northern Peru decided to separate their coffee cherries from the harvest of the surrounding male-owned farms. This was the beginning of the CECANOR cooperative, which aimed to create a gender-focused program supporting social justice and empowerment for women coffee producers.

Since then, the Café Femenino foundation has expanded into many other coffee-producing countries worldwide. To become a Café Femenino cooperative, co-ops must provide the women in the coop with legal rights to the land on which they farm, leadership positions within the coop, financial and business decision-making power, and direct payment for their coffee, including the Café Femenino premium.

We are proud to have been buying coffee from Café Femenino Peru from its inception. To this day, we still have bags from their initial crops hanging in our roastery. Since then, we haven’t missed a year of buying their crop, and it has long been a pillar of our coffee program.
